How my favorite rapper, La Fouine, made the most iconic comeback of the French rap industry

“It’s Fouiny babe, babe, the GOAT IS BACK!!!!”

Honestly, I didn’t think I’d hear that signature phrase, that flow, that fire… that artist anytime soon. Truth is, I had completely lost hope of ever seeing him take back his rightful place.
But I underestimated the man himself, his determination and maybe a bit of divine timing.

So it’s with a deep emotion that I can finally say it loud and clear: MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE RAPPER IS BACK!!! 😭

Backstory…

I really started listening to La Fouine in 2013, with the album Drôle de Parcours.
Of course, I already knew who he was, it impossible not to, but his music didn’t truly speak to me until I went through an extremely difficult period in my life for the first time.

He became that silent friend in my headphones, the one who, without even knowing me, seemed to understand my emotions better than the people around me did.

Then came the dry spell… the long walk through the desert… until he completely disappeared from the radar. At some point, I made peace with the the idea that maybe he was never coming back. Maybe the public had moved on, or worse, thought he was not at the right level anymore, music wise.

And then… 2024. The miracle.

He makes a thunderous return at Les Flammes and reminds the world WHO he is.
And right after that? Another surprise: the announcement of his concert at Bercy.
I didn’t hesitate for even a second to grab my ticket immediately. After all, I had been waiting over ten years to see him perform live.

Months passed, and then came the big day: Bercy, April 8, 2025.

As someone who’s been to countless concerts, let me tell you: that night, I witnessed one of the best shows of my life.
For over 2 hours, I became that 14-year-old girl again, knowing all the lyrics by heart, singing, rapping, screaming, living every word and remembering all the lines.

La Fouine gave us an incredible visual and musical performance.
The crowd was on fire, singing nearly every lyric in unison.
Special guests like Youssoupha (another one of my favorite rappers) and Zaho (one of my favorite French-speaking singers) were the cherry on top.

That concert made me deeply happy, not just because I finally got to live my dream of seeing him live, but more importantly, because he saw with his own eyes that we had never forgotten him.
That we were waiting for him.
That we were still carrying him in our hearts.

The next day, still on cloud nine after that legendary night, I was casually scrolling through social media when I saw a SHOCKING new announcement:
At his second Bercy show, on April 9, La Fouine announced the release of his tenth album… THAT SAME FRIDAY!!!

I was literally shook.
So happy, I didn’t even know how to react.

That Friday, I waited for midnight like never before.
I stayed up late working on school assignments, almost on purpose, just to let time fly.
And as soon as the clock struck 12, I jumped on Spotify and listened to the entire album.
During the whole thing, only one sentence kept running through my head:

La Fouine, thank you for coming back.

That’s when it hit me, during his absence, I had almost completely stopped listening to French rap.
I had noticed it a few days earlier, without really understanding why…
And suddenly, everything made sense: none of the new-gen rappers had touched me the way he did or like the ones in my personal top 4.
Especially, not like him.

Once again, like with the previous mixtape, this album was brilliantly crafted:
smart features with the new school, razor-sharp lyrics, punchy rhymes, nostalgic flows…
But above all: his authenticity.
That raw honesty. No filters. No gimmicks. Just truth.

In short… THE GOAT IS REALLY BACK.

In the end, I think we all have a little piece of life that echoes with a La Fouine track.
